~Gimme da Blues~

This is the Blues music track I wanted to make for my last deviation, which somehow ended up in rock. Sometimes Blues and Rock are so close to each other that it's easy to switch from one to the other. Instruments are the drums, acoustic bass, lead and rhythm guitars, keyboard, with extra solo in harmonica.

Figure is V4. "Gimme da Blues" music track, characters, graphic art, music player, and AS3 programming by me. Final arrangement done in Flash CS4. Hope you like it and thanks for coming by!

Oh yeah, I played the guitar from high school all the way to college, but my band disbanded after that because everybody moved to a different city. We used to play progressive rock and the blues. I really miss those days. ^^

Thank you! Full motion video in Flash can be a killer if you don't have a GPU accelerated video card. ^^

Wow, that's good. I did not know that you play so well!!!
I'm facing many bugs and crashes in Flash CS4, even with updates installed and an OK hardware - hope Adobe fix these issues, which is the best Flash ever, but the most unstable. I'm also still migrating from AS2 to AS3, and it's been a challenge - kind of hard to make a simple button working! :-)

So far the only bug I have encountered with Flash CS4 was something that was already there in Flex 3 and Flash CS3, where the Flash Player is unable to report the playback position of a MP3 sound depending on the bitrate it was encoded with. AS3 programs like this require knowing the music playback position at all times, but the built-in Flash Player 10 from Flash CS4 returns garbage data instead. Fortunately, the stand-alone and browser-based versions of Flash Player 10 do not show the bug and work properly. Adobe acknowledged this bug back in 2007 and tagged it as "severe", but then closed the case and never had it fixed. So here it is again in the brand new Flash CS4 built-in Flash Player 10 - the same bug from back all the way to 2007. O_O

Migrating from AS2 to AS3 might be tough, but it is a necessity considering that AS3 is now finally based on ECMA international standards. ActionScript has now finally become a more consistent language and easier to use. OOP has now become much stronger than before, and while using Flex I can created 100% object-oriented classes that were not possible in the past with AS2. ^___^

You're totally right about the importance of migrating to AS3. It's really worthy, no matter how challenging it may be. Do you know some good forum where I could learn more? :-)

Although I'm not a very experienced programmer (and so, still limited when the subject is command lines), I always used AS to improve my Flash movies. All that I learnt of programming was by myself, so the slope when gaining experience is slow, but more consistent. :-D

I'm still facing crazy bugs in Flash CS4, it probably has to do with my hardware [I'm running it in a notebook with Windows XP SP3 and 2GB of RAM, with an Intel video card with NO GPU support :-( ]. I'll try to install it in other machine to see what's the matter.

It now has been about 2 years since I've got started with AS3, and I still could not find a decent forum where I could post my questions and ever get a satisfying answer - or an answer at all. But from all the forums I knew, I think the best might be this one --> [link] :)

What kind of bugs have you found in Flash CS4?

Thanks a lot for the link! :-D

Odd bugs are happening here since I first installed CS4 after removing the older CS3 Collection. The most common appears sometimes, when I use my Wacom Bamboo tablet pen simply clicking in that small bucket in the Toolbar to pick a fill color: Flash will crash and show me that screen-of-death to report the error to Adobe. The other happens less often, when I just try to move a line object in the stage.

I searched for the fix in many foruns, but nothing found. The last Adobe Updates made Flash less unstable, but it still crashes the way I described. :-( Anyway, I'll try the software in my other machine, an older desktop PC.

Oh, so it is an issue with hardware compatibility, not ActionScript related. I was referring more to bugs with Flash CS4 itself and ActionScript bugs with Flash Player 10. ^^
