That whole movie was non-sensical. The original script was to feature Spider-Man fighting the Vulture, but Sony Execs wanted Venom because he was a hotter commodity. 
Later when they make Spider-Man: Homecoming, they go ahead and use the Vulture and make much more at the box office! 
That's why I am not that excited about the new Venom movie, Sony will ruin it some how.
