~Twilight Sparkle~

You're not gonna believe what I've been doing today - I have been rigging for Poser one of My Little Pony models created by KP-ShadowSquirrel. It was a great opportunity to practice vertex weight painting in Poser Pro 2012. Still needs some work, but it was fun to play with! ^^

You may be wondering how did I get into this? I saw so many people posting ponies, so I decided to see what is it that people see in it, and got hooked. I am starting the 2nd episode of the 2nd season today...

Figure is Twilight Sparkle (Copyright Hasbro) modeled by KP-ShadowSquirrel, rigged for Poser by me, posed and rendered in Poser. Hope you like it and thanks for coming by!

Wait, you made a poser model of Twilight Sparkle? I don't suppose you plan on releasing it?

Hehe it was modeled by KP-ShadowSquirrel, who is offering all the models for free in her gallery. I just rigged the raw model for Poser, so it could be posed. I ended up doing almost the entire crew --> [link] where RainbowDash [link] got her own deviation because she is the coolest. ;p

You can get all these models at KP-ShadowSquirrel's gallery. I am holding the Poser rigged ones until I have a site and can host them again.

Import as OBJ, and apply the provided textures in the Material Room. You won't be able to pose them, but you can still render. :)

Thank you! The rig wasn't great in this 1st try, but it got much better in the 2nd. ^^

Good. It would be shocking to see someone known for his pictures of HUMAN females change to making ponies. Girl ponies. Girl ponies that don't look anything like the real thing...

Well, glad to know it didn't infect you. :D

I really like the characters after having watched the TV series, but I have little space for fanart in my gallery. :)

Hehehe....hope you release them, I know a LOT of folks I met at Animethon this past weekend will LOVE to have some Pony renders. They are already pretty jealous of me since I got to be on stage performing with the voice of Spike and the Mayor.

I have these models as well and I got them already rigged from somewhere. While I haven't watched the show, I've been meaning to do something with them. :)

To me the real deal was to rig it myself because I have never rigged a quadruped before, and I also wanted to try rigging with a PHI file, which I have never tried before. It was also an exercise with vertex weight painting, but I am afraid I have failed on the 1st attempt. I am re-rigging the model and this time I think I am using the right amount of bones for this character. ^^

In my experience from a recent commission job, rigs with weight maps in Poser will not work in DS4 for some reason. DAZ3D claims to have helped SmithMicro to implement the TriAx rigging in Poser 9/PP, but as far as I know, it doesn't work. You can import Genesis into Poser, but cannot send Poser weight mapped models back to DS4. I guess DAZ3D wants to keep everything separated?

You have no idea how surprised I was when it didn't work in DS4. The model still works in DS3, but the weight maps are lost. Doesn't make sense. ;p

Last time I asked, looks like DS4 has a bug that keeps rigging done in Poser from working correctly, or at all. Now DS only works with itself.

Yeah, a number of content developers have decided to quit supportting for DS4 because of that. In my case, it's not even a choice - my rigging won't work on DS4.

You're doing better than I've managed. I've tried with some Zelda model rips (Midna, for example), and they turned out terrible.

If the models were extracted from the game itself, they tend to have insufficient geometry to pose well in Poser.

Yep, that's exactly what I was noticing. XD

Probably would have to throw 'em into Max to subdivide a few more times, but even then....

I wouldn't just subdivide them. They usually need some cleanup and a little refinement. Subdividing may put too many polys where they are not needed. ^^

Haha well, this rig is not final. As a matter of fact, I am not happy with it and will most likely redo it with a different skeleton layout (I have never rigged a quadruped).
